Bio
Frijo Francis is a Jazz/Experimental Pianist and Music Composer working in the field of experimental music. His compositions are mainly based on progressive instrumental music with an essence of Indian classical music, jazz harmony and contemporary style.
Born to a musical family, Frijo grew up listening to various Indian forms of music. He underwent rigorous western classical music training under the tutelage of
Fr. Thomas chakkalamattath for 12 years and earned his ATCL diploma from Trinity College of Music, London.
In the recent years, Frijo has been working with maestros like Dr.L.Subramaniam, Sri Trilok Gurtu, Jeno Lisztes, legendary Gipsy violinist Roby Lakatos, Grammy Winner Vikku Vinayakram, Patri Satish Kumar, Anindo Chatterjee, Ernie Watts, Ritt Henn, Jorge Pardo and played for various acts including The Woodshed Musicians, FNYJ, SubraMania, Infusion, Big Band and Blue Rondo all over the world.
His harmonically advanced playing is influenced by several legends like Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Jojo Mayer and Tony Williams to name a few.
Frijo’s Not Yet Jazz (FNYJ) was formed in Bangalore, India in the
year of 2014 when pianist/composer Frijo Francis decided to
act on his skills and to raise the bar of Jazz in India, reaching
out to a wider audience with the support of talented musicians
and friends he had worked with along the way.
On the foundation of Frijo’s strong classical background, FNYJ
is creating new repertoire through many accomplished
musicians, adding a new meaning altogether. Thus FNYJ
decided to conquer the limitless sky of music and contribute
their style into the world of Jazz. FNYJ believes that sounds
and silences are the key of music and wants to drive it though
this dream project.
The band FNYJ involves in bringing out the best in Jazz while
actively experimenting with various other genres of music
ranging from rock or trance or western classical to Indian ragas.
Each time they portray their piece of art, there is always a
mental sway of musical notes among the spirits of the artists.
Jazz being the art of open minds, the band is seeking modern
and contemporary elements in Jazz music.
Their minds expresses spontaneously creating the world of
most divine music
